Six Apart is a company that has been pivotal in the blogging movement with their innovative software, and today they released Movable Type 4, which is clearly their most impressive release to date.

“Movable Type 4 is the largest release in the product’s history and introduces significant content management and community capabilities,” stated Chris Alden, EVP and General Manager of the Professional Division at Six Apart. “There is a tremendous demand for a powerful and easy-to-use platform to create community-driven web sites. Today’s release is the culmination of input from the community and has ignited interest from customers, developers, and partners around the world. We’re thrilled to see such enthusiastic early adoption of MT4.”

Movable Type 4 brings more than 50 new features to the table, and where it is said to excel the most is in the area of community management. “We have grown to become one of the largest blogs on the web with Movable Type,” said Mark Frauenfelder, founder of Boing Boing, among the top 40 blogs in the U.S. in terms of unique visitors. “And we’re thrilled to be one of the first blogs to deploy Movable Type 4, which has great new features that will let our community get even more involved in the conversation.”

The software is not free, of course, but versions of it are reasonable. You check out Movable Type’s website for pricing.

Are any of you using Movable Type? What do you think of the new version?
