It’s A New Year In The Blogosphere

Will people still be talking about Digg in 2007? Will Technorati matter? I doubt anyone can give a concrete answer to these questions. Blogging isn’t new, and tons of money and interest keep being dumped into the industry. There’s so much hype in the blogosphere, it just might be “put up or shut up” time for many industry wannabe leaders.

Let’s look at some of the issues affecting bloggers as we start the new year:

1) Should bloggers take money for posts and then disclose?

Well the disclosure issue has ended quickly, thanks to a recent FTC decision. Everyone needs to disclose their paid blog posts. Personally, I can’t see this “service” getting off the ground. The cost is expensive for the advertisers, aka link spammers, and it won’t do much for a blogger’s reputation. I’m stearing clear of taking money for posts, and would rather let uninterested advertisers pay for the creation of content.

2) How can bloggers continue to manipulate social media?

2007 may be the year that the worm turns for people who have successfully been forming “Digg armies” or otherwise manipulate social media websites to their own advantage. Social media will either learn a way to effectively police themselves, or the public will lose faith in the system. If the public does lose faith, traffic and revenue plummet.

3) Which bloggers can make the transition from bloggers to business owners?

The main key for money-earning bloggers should be to turn their blogs into continous profit centers and actual businesses. Blogging may be an Art, but it’s also an extremely useful Business format. Blogs are low-capital, low-risk and relatively high investment opportunities. But they do demand a ton of attention and work.

I think we’ll see more and more bloggers attempt to transition their blogging from a hobby to a business.

This year is shaping up to be a very intersting one. These are some of my thoughts. I’d love to hear yours.

    2. Their will always be ways to minipulate social media sites, with isn’t any good way to detect ‘digg armys’ etc…
      This year I can see many blog owners (if sucessful ones) will switch to selling a product or something like that instead of blogging, its predicted to go down hill rapidly this year.

      I can’t see the blogging market going uphill at all this year they really do demand alot of attention and ‘newbies’ can’t always put all that much effort into it.

    3. Already many bloggers are doing business through their blogs and it doesn’t necessarily have to be through advertising. Some get business through their blogs, some run their consultancy, and some authors sell their own books from their blogs.
