Even if you started your blog today, you have to be aware that they only way anyone can find your content is if your promote your blog. It won’t take truly agressive marketing to find readers, but it will take consistency. If you ever plan on making your blog the center of your business, you will have to have one hell of a lot of visitors. It will take more traffic than you can imagine to generate truly impressive revenue from a blog.

Traffic comes from a combination of new visitors to your website, to your return visitors, and from the works of yourself and others to promote your blog.

The process of marketing a blog is continous: you attempt to entice new visitors to your blog based on timely posts you’re making, and then you try and keep them around by continously updating with helpful information. There might be other formulas for success, but what I’m describing here should work quite well for anyone who starts blogging now.

Use the vast resources available to promote your website. There are tons of websites out there that can help you get a bit of exposure. Don’t think it’s too late to promote if you only have a few posts. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Everyone who responds, please name a method that a new person could use to promote their blog.

    2. Two easy ones:

      1) Leaving comments on other blogs and putting your website in the website field.

      2) Email signature. I have my sites listed on my email signature and whenever I send out a personal email, people see my sites listed without me needing to remember to tell them.

    3. Hi Darren.

One can also write useful articles and distribute them freely. Linking to other blogs and websites helps too. Another way of retaining your visitors is to engage them in an interesting dialog: talk to them, ask them questions, ask for their opinions.

    4. In my blogging schedule, I spend half of my time blogging and the other half promoting it. I think the ratio should be about there. Writing too much and not promoting will kill you, promoting too much and writing too little is stupid too. :)

    6. Make sure your feed can be found in the blog directories like Technorati. Pretty simple to just sign up and put the Technorati symbol somewhere on your blog. Use it to subscribe readers to your blog.
