Most Bloggers Don’t Need To Become Podcasters

Okay, this might come as a surprise, but not all people are born to be announcers or video personalities. This is as true in the “Blog’O'Sphere” as it is anywhere in real life. But bloggers are impetous people, and podcasting doesn’t really cost much money to do, so everyday more and more Podcast are hatched.

I think potential podcasters should ask themselves some valid questions before delving further into the craft?

1) Do I have anything to SAY?

I mean, really. Are you planning on adding something new to your niche, or do you just like the sound of your own voice?

2) How does your voice sound?

I’m not naming any names, but bloggers have some of the worst damn voices I’ve ever had the mis-pleasure of hearing. If your voice is annoying, are you sure people will want to endure listening to you?

3) What qualifications do you have as a broadcaster?

Owning a stethoscope does not make you a do ctor and owning a microphone doesn’t qualify you to become a broadcaster. Before you start broadcasting to the world, do something to practice your presentation.

Most podcasts I’ve heard are just literally awful. I mean these things are so bad you couldn’t get out of bed in the morning if you were forced to listen to them. And the worst part is, I doubt these podcasters even plan on getting better. They just figure they’re interesting and everyone will listen.

Podcasting can be a huge opportunity to motivated people, but like everything else in life, it takes a bit of effort to excel at the craft. The very best podcasters ARE good broadcasters, and great broadcasters will be able to make the transition to podcasting.

What do you think of podcasting? Do you do it?
