If you plan on becoming a blogger, and you’re looking for a relatively easy way to get up and running and making some decent money, I believe I’ve discovered a formula that could work for you. It will take effort, and great discipline and devotion, but the results could be well worth it. I’ve been experimenting with building blogs that earn, and I’m starting to get better and better and results as I tweak my methods. Here’s a few principles that will help a lot:

1) Blogging is all about search engine traffic. It’s great to get links from other bloggers. It’s cool to get Dugg, etc. But if you’re looking to make actual money online, you need Google traffic. Hey, I don’t make the rules, but you need to make sure that people using Google can find your posts when they search.

2) Find a popular subject to blog about. I’m not saying that a slow-moving niche can’t make money, because they can, but this post is about ramping up somewhat quicker. You have to have search demand for your subject in order to get any critical mass. If you’re tracking an industry, make sure it’s one that updates often so you can too.

3) Update your blog 5-8 times daily.
This is why you need to “SEE Step Number One”. You won’t get traction in the search engines, unless you can update often. I know this number might shock some of you. Don’t be nervous. I’ve grown accustomed to adding 20-30 entries a day across multiple websites. It’s work, but it’s not like REAL WORK :) If you concentrate a ton of posts in one blog, it makes a big deal of difference in the end.

I want to point this out because this is a big issue I feel. I posted a bunch of times in MULTIPLE blogs and got little traction. When I finally concentrated and posted MULTIPLE times daily in a SINGLE blog, I started to see real traffic gains. I’m confident most people would be best served posting a lot in one blog, given how much of a bias the search engines really place on fresh news. As you update, and stay abreast of a subject, it’s not uncommon to see people who are searching for that very news story arrive within 24 hours of your posting.

If you can continue to update on popular stories, your traffic and readership tends to grow very fast.

There are many other ways to make money blogging undoubtedly, but I’m convinced for someone just starting out, the things I’ve outlined here will help get you up and running with decent traffic within 60-90 days. When you see results in that period of time, you’re more likely to want to stick with the project long-term.

What say you? What have I left out? Let’s talk!
