Updating Blogs Takes A Ton Of Discipline

There are lots of virtues that make up good bloggers, but one virtue, above others stands out as the reason so many people have succeeded at blogging. It takes consistent discipline, exercised over time to produce really good traffic at most blogs. It takes discipline to update constantly, without being told by anyone to do it. Very few people will display this type of discipline for any length of time.

It’s a lot easier said than done when it comes to posting every day, essentially forever. Of course more people will sign up for this job then complete the task. Being required to write and having the wherewithal to do it each day is not something that can be entered into in a light manner.

So what’s one way approach to take when it comes to gearing yourself up to blog each day? I’m now focused on the benefits my archive can bring me. Since March of this year, my wife Heather and I have made many THOUSANDS of blog posts. These posts are bringing in passive income, and some of the hard work is starting to pay off. It becomes easier to post as the rewards go up. How obvious is that? ;)

When you first start blogging and don’t have anything to show for it, it requires a great deal of discipline to post. As your income rises, it becomes easier to do it out of a sense of earning, rather than obligation, and the job becomes that much easier.

How do you motivate yourself to blog every day?

    2. There ain’t no motivation like money!….thats for damn sure lol.

I always feel more motivated when I have had a good day of earnings, also when I think about traffic, growth, and the money calculations of “what can be” gets me motivated.

It often hard to be motivated in the beginning as this is where people tend to work hardest, but it’s the time where there is not much in return, that comes later.

The posts we create today will not earn us much, but over time as they build up it pays off. Nothing instant in blogging!

    3. Indeed, I motivate myself by thinking of the rewards (money) I will reep in the future. You are right though, it demands discipline. Especially as my main blog is a sports blog, and it is off-season right now! But as I have learned through reading other sites, (like this one) the archive and constant posting matters. Readers like to know you’re still alive every now and then. ;-)

    4. You have a great advantage over the rest of us Darren .. that being fortunate to have Heather blogging with you. A lot of us do not have that. In fact, that reminds me of one post I did a while ago .. I’m still looking for friends, relatives, neighbors that truly understand what this is really about and why we do it, or continue to try to do it. I’d settle if my wife wouldn’t complain as much when I do not come to bed at a reasonable hour .. more times than I wanted to!

    5. I’m in a similar situation as Darren (one of the reasons im extra interested in this blog). I’m just out of uni, but not using my degree, I along with my girlfriend are giving blogging our best shot. Its hard work, but working with someone is a great advantage :)

    6. You have a point Hart. Without any support at all, it would be very tough to continue.

Being a true “one man show” is depressing almost! :)

    7. My motivation these days comes from the number of blog posts I want to write everyday and when I achieve that number I feel a sense of achievement :-). Having said that, I think there are many bloggers who are a great inspiration and motivation.
