Let’s talk about getting some blog traffic up and running fast. If that’s your goal, then you need to go social. Luckily you live in times that are geared towards social blogging and towards rapid traffic development, if you follow a few simple guidelines.
1) Use all of the social bookmarking websites you can find.
They’re out there, and there’s a ton of them. Chances are you won’t really get very far with them (most of them are controlled by cliques), but you will still get some extra visitors, and your article should be read by other bloggers
2) Comment in related blogs.
This is a surefire way to get the attention of other bloggers in your niche. You have to realize that it’s a tradeoff of effort for time, but the more you can comment, the more visitors who will come to your website, and they will be targeted visitors. It’s one way to build instant traffic when you have none.
3) Title your posts carefully so you get traffic from the “Blogosphere” and blog search.
You can’t expect enough traffic to shut your server down, but 10 or 20 unique visitors in a day, especially if they’re targeted, can make a huge difference to a new website
4) SEO your blog.
Make sure your blog is extremely SEO’d. You can pick up traffic from the search engines pretty quick, especially if you’re able to get a lot of incoming links to your website and to your posts. Obviously, the SEO efforts will require knowledge, so if you have a lot of knowledge, you stand a good chance at building traffic relatively fast.
5) Pay for it.
Okay, that one costs money but works effectively. But traffic from PPC sources or from other bloggers. It might be worth the payments, if you feel you have a subject where momentum could play a key role. Use common sense, though, because overpaying for traffic is a quick way to find residence in the poor house.
6) Create a massive controversy
Really piss everyone off. If you can garner some death threats, all the better. You’ll get a ton of traffic to your blog, mostly from people who want to scream at and insult you. I’m not saying this is a great method to get lasting traffic, but many people have used the approach to popular their blog in the early days.
7) Make your blog of such extraordinary high quality that everyone flocks to it, almost instantly
It doesn’t happen often, but it has occurred for some. If you make your content super-high quality, then you should be able to get a lot of instant traffic from “word of mouth”. People are always looking for new sources of information, and most will happily visit your website if build it really well.
What are some other ways people can use to build fast traffic to their blogs?

Another potential idea is to join a blog network or an existing team blog :).

Number 6 I don’t really think you should encourage people to do that, but all the other ones are a must do.

Actually its easy to get traffic… but not easy to get targeted traffic. I personally feel that it is also not so nice to social bookmark your own posts, unless you really think you are recording breaking news. :p

Darren, would you mind if I use these points (I’ll rewrite the paragraphs wholly) and make it into an article for submission? I am writing some articles for article submission to promote my blog further.

Number 3 makes a whole lotta sense. Maybe that’s my problem I seem to make huge titles for my post. Maybe they just need more clarification and simplification.
