In light of recent issues that seemed to have popped up with a popular blog network, it made me reflect on my own experiences with collaborating with others over the internet. I have found, for the most part, that very little fruit has been born from my online relationships. I guess this is really very easy to understand.
When you can’t see people at all, it’s tough to “know” them in a real sense. You have text, and little else to judge your relationship by. When you enter into a business relationship with anyone, things change. So some of these loose internet relationships tend to fail in a bad way.
I guess the biggest way to make sure some of these relationships work out is by defining what’s expected of both parties very clearly. That way either party is less likely to be let down or disappointed in any way. This is true, really, of any relationship.
Have you worked with others over the internet? What were the results?
