I am deep behind enemy lines. As I right this, it is Day 242 of earning money blogging. I’ve seen my share of triumphs, as well as tragedies, and I write this missive with a light heart. Are there easiers ways to make money that blogging? Sure. Name some of them. Okay, start with collecting bottle caps. Haha, I am just kidding. Anyways, back to the theme at hand.

Oh, that is how to make cash. The way to make cash with blogs is by getting traffic from search engines and then sending it out to a sponsor (affiliate or Adsense), or by retaining and converting the customer yourself. It’s the same for blogs as it is for other websites. But blogs do have one nice advantage over other websites. That advantage is the ability to rank well in search engines quickly (generally), and to get instant traffic from the blogosphere while you wait for the search engine traffic to settle in.

Using social bookmarking websites can get you some fast traffic. It’s usually not very productive when it comes to click on ads, but hell, it is free. You can also get some decent volume of search from Technorati and Blogger search (but usually on one word style terms). All of this initial early-warning traffic is great. These are the people who are REALLY looking for something. And if they’re really looking, and you can refer them to the place where they can buy the product, you have a match made in heaven.

Blogging for dollars is no different on Day 242 than it was on Day 1 or will be on Day 1000. You need to have a plan for the monetization of your traffic, and you need to have the ability to drive traffic. The closer you can align the people who come in with the offers on the way out, the more money you stand to earn.

Targeted traffic nearly always pays the best online.

    2. Actually, for my case, i think a large number of referred traffic either from other blogs or social bookmarking sites don’t click enough on my ads. The ones that click are the ones coming from the search engines…

But well, incoming links from other blogs do help you position better in search engines… so you have to do it anyway ;)

    3. Darren .. that was funny .. “collecting bottle caps” .. ‘aint that the truth!

But - I’ve been experimenting with social plugin that I actually paid money for on November 1st .. and my traffic seems to be increasing slightly .. I don’t really know what to make of it yet though. It’s like the feed counter .. it goes up and down by 20% on any given day it seems.

      Well -lessee .. 242/365 // Happy 66.3% of a year day.

    4. Hey, the main key is to keep on experimenting.

I have seen a decent increase in Adsense revenue since Monday. I think it was all the “Taye Diggs” ads they were running. Will it continue? No one can say for sure.
