For bloggers, posting is like putting money in the bank

When you’re a blogger, the only product you have is you posts. You can’t honestly expect to post once and sit back on your laurels. I have seen some examples of people done just that, but I don’t think it’s a great thing for everyone to try. For most of us, we’ll only get readers, traffic, and revenue if we keep on putting material out there that gets found by people. As soon as we stagnate, the world will turn its’ back on us, and forget we even existed.
Everytime I hit the “Publish” button, I feel like I’ve accomplished something. It’s like taking a step that puts me just a bit closer to me destination. What that destination is, I don’t know for sure, but for a blogger the posts are the rungs on the ladder. Sometimes when he go out there and blog, we give it our best and really do something special. On other occassions, I’m sure we’re capable of a bit of slacking off and we don’t put our best work out there.
But one good thing: our archive is what will build us traffic in the end, so putting more in the archive is the main thing that adds value. Not everything has to be text either. Any pictures or videos or audio podcasts you add will also increase your overall value. Your website starts by being worth nothing, or virtually nothing, and over times the value adds dramatically. The added value is a direct result of your efforts. Even the biggest and most famous bloggers didn’t start out with thousands of readers. It’s only now that they’re cashing in on the equity of the brand they built over time.
Blogging is definitely not an exact science, but more like an art. If you give enough effort of yourself that you stand apart from the crowd, you’re bound to excel. And if you can excel, then you can reap rewards that are probably beyond your reach in other fields. This is especially true as blogging goes more mainstream every day, and a greater number of people blog professionally. Only a percentage will truly excel, and it will take a lot of effort for them to remain on the top.
Do you view blogging as a long term investment of your time?

I agree that blogging is a long term investment, those that are there for short term gain will fall by the wayside when they realise it takes time and hard work to build up your archives and readers. I would hate to think of how many blogs i have visited that have just died, no good bye or see you later … just dumped.

You have said it very well. If you can have 1000 entries on any particular topic, you are sure to get some decent traffic from Google every day. That is why it is very important to remain focused in just one topic.
