Everyone “in the know” is really excited about blogging. They love the medium and they understand just how blogs can help them communicate with others better. But the “man in the street” is going to take a little convincing. The traditional media still has credibility (although not with everyone). Bloggers are quickly gaining in credibility, and it will take continued efforts to help educate the masses on why blogging can be a helpful addition to any media diet.
Most technological movements involve some sort of grassroots movement to educate the late adapters. Someone has to teach Grandma about how to blog, or why reading blogs is important to her. When I wrote about the new Netscape, I had an “Old Netscaper” named Scott make the following comment:
I care not what other’s on the net think of the story that I most likely did not care for anyway…news is news…blog means nothing to me…who shot JR? or was OJ guilty? Who cares if Mel Gibson got drunk and said something stupid? I want to know if people are dieing because of religious strife or from natural disaster…I want to know if the hot weather is going to cause more problems…and I must admit…I listened to the tv for 15 seconds or so and found out two pandas were born…so a little fluff can be allowed…just a little…
So folks like Scott are not completely sold on what’s being touted as Web 2.0, and a lot of people are barely hip to blogs and blogging. The numbers are growing everyday, and more and more people are becoming aware. But what steps do bloggers need to take to educate the common people?
Are you teaching people you know about blogging?

Just one step. Take blogging seriously and then a blogger can have good credibility and gradually more and more people will take them seriously. It will just take some time.
