Realistic milestones of professional blogging success

Let’s talk about some very realistic and do-able numbers for someone blogging with the intent of making money. If you were to start from scratch, how much income could you expect in one year? The first months of your efforts will be very tough. You’ll have to endure a lot of relentless blogging in order to achieve your goals, but there’s nothing crazy about your desire.

These numbers are realistic to me, based on what I’ve learned from my efforts since March of this year.

To create an income stream of $1,000-$5,000 annually for one blog that you post in once daily. I think this goal is extremely achievable, depending on your keyword category.

To make between $5,000 to $20,000, I would think you’d need to blog multiple times daily, and to multiple blogs. To become a $20,000 to $50,000 per year blogger it will take differentiating yourself from the crowd and generating enough traffic to get CPM payments. At this point you will need to be a “name brand blogger” to at least a percentage of the online population.

To start rising to much loftier levels, it will take organizing your efforts into a business, and most likely it will involved bringing in other people. And no matter what, you need to keep in mind that the clock is always ticking. The next big thing is waiting behind every corner, so you have to stay extremely flexible and in-step with what is actually making money. For a blogger to make $200,000 or more per year, I’d suggest she needs to sell a product that’s directly tied into her blog and online blogging persona. She would have to focus on the one blog, and build an expert status, to encourage the sales from the website.

At that point, she’s no longer just a blogger, and instead is a business person. Once the transition to business owner is complete, you have to consider just how much your operation COSTS every month too.

Any goal you achieve for yourself is probably achievable, but it depends on your skill level, like everything else in life. You still need drive and ability to be a big earner in any field, and blogging is no different. One great thing is, though, blogging should prove highly profitable for just about anyone who tries it, especially if they operate in a businesslike manner from day one.

Blogging is getting more crowded every day (over 1.6 millions posts are made daily!). To excel and pull away from the crowd is requiring greater exertion.
