This is Part 5 of the Earn Money Blogging series, and this one is of paramount importance. If you fail at keyword selection, no amount of tweaking can save you and make your blog profitable. If there’s no market of advertisers for your keyword, you’ll end up having a tough time of earning revenue. That’s why you have to focus on keyword development, in the sense that it will ultimately help determine whether you blog for money, or just for fun.

Advertisers sell products and services. Therefore, they’re most likely to advertise on pages that are extremely closely related to the products and services they sell. A simple tip, but one that goes a long way to determing your blog’s earning potential. If you’re interest is in a subject like “digital photography”, you can easily see how you can blog on highly related keywords.

Example search engine queries:

  • Buy Canon 810D camera
  • Learn digital photography
  • Review of the new Lexmark photo printer
  • The best digital camera

All of these examples are off-shoots of the main subject, and all of them allow you to earn a maximum amount per-click, because there’s a market. There are always a large number of people looking to sell specific products, so you can almost always earn good money by reviewing products.

You can also gain links and earn money based on “how-tos” and tutorials of any sort. You’ll get natural links and traffic, plus secondary and tertiary traffic from search engines and the blogosphere. Chances are very good that you’ll have a full inventory of ads on the page. If you’ve already tweaked your ads for maximum performance, the main part of the job will be to sit back and earn. Use every method at your disposal to drive more traffic to your blog.

Anytime a new product is released in your field, report on it. Chances are you’ll rank well (given the limited universe of competing pages), and you’ll have motivated advertisers vying for attention on your pages. The deep the ad inventory, the more you earn. If your subject matter generates 12 competing ads on a page, you’re in very good shape.

  2. Wow, great post. Though I always found it hard to make my posts brimming with relevant keywords.
