Don’t take yourself too seriously when blogging

It’s important to blog, but it’s not life or death. If you act like your very life depends on blogging, you might be too uptight to really let loose. If you find yourself in this too-tight state, then smoke some crack cocaine or drink a lot of alcohol and unwind. Wait, scratch that advice, as it rarely works out for anyone :) No, you’d be better off going for a long bike ride, or perhaps competing in a marathon. Maybe make a movie, or sail the seven seas. Who cares what it is you do, but just get out there and do it.

If your blogging is a chore, then you’ve turned it into a job. And not just any job, but a sucky 24×7x365 job that never ends! There are easiers things to do than blog if your mindset isn’t up for it. If you’re feeling chained to the WordPress, you need to do something that enriches your life, then come back and report about it. The best bloggers are the people who have something to tell us. And the way that hey get info and experiences to relate to us in their blogs is by living.

Does this mean that a dork can’t be a good blogger? Nope, not at all. Even a dork who rarely leaves the house can become expert in any number of subjects and maintain a blog. But the poor blogging dork is still hurting in some ways. If a well rounded life is what most people need in order to feel successful, endlessly posting to your blog may not be the answer. But every experience you have in a day can make you a better blogger, not just your online ones.

My advice for you is to go pull a practical joke on someone (someone who can’t beat you up easily) or take a short trip somewhere. Unplug your keyboard. Turn your monitor off and go take a walk in the park. When you return, your head cleared, and your heart soaring, you’ll be prepared to blog to even greater heights than normal.
